Whether maneuvering his fishing boat/occasional floating studio among the rocks and rips and seams of his coastal environment in pursuit of Stripers, or casting the windswept and wave swept rocky precipices of Atlantic New England, pursuing wild Atlantic Salmon along New Brunswick, Canada's Miramichi and Cains Rivers ,Montana's Madison River, Yellowstone's Slough Creek or angling Central Pennsylvania’s limestone spring creeks, Luther gathers the visual and sensory material for his saltwater and freshwater fly fishing portrayals.
The fly fishing experience, the people, the drama, the adventure, the comedy, and the serenity of those experiences have become the primary frame work of Luther’s paintings. Montana’s Madison River, Yellowstone National Park’s Slough Creek, Pennsylvania’s Spruce Creek, Quebec, Canada’s Grand Cascapedia River, New Brunswick Canada's Miramichi and Cains Rivers and Atlantic Coastal New England are his most portrayed waters.
Luther maintains an ongoing, working, contributing association with the Miramichi River Salmon Association (New Brunswick, Canada, USA) which has honored him for his contributions to Atlantic Salmon Conservation and the Connecticut River Salmon Association, which honored Luther as their Sporting Artist of 2013. He has served on the boards of directors of multiple saltwater angling and conservation organizations in Southeastern Connecticut.
Luther is a Graduate of Wilkes University. He completed his Masters Studies at the University of Connecticut and studied painting at Lyme Academy of Art. He maintains a working, teaching studio in Mystic, Connecticut.
